Education contract caterer HCL launches global food experience for students
The contract caterer says this initiative marks an evolution in school meal provision, designed to meet contemporary student dining expectations whilst addressing key challenges in secondary school catering.
Rolling out now across HCL catered schools in the Southeast, Street Eats introduces nine distinct sub-brands offering diverse global culinary experiences.
These unique concepts feature on a three-week menu cycle to ensure continuous appeal. They cater to varied student preferences and dietary considerations, mirroring high street diversity while maintaining HCL's commitment to balanced nutrition.
It responds to a clear trend: a 59% rise in major food outlets near schools over the last decade, with almost 1,000 additional schools now having at least one chain within 400 meters.

Street Eats sub-brands include:
- Umami – Taste of Asia: Celebrating the rich, savoury ‘fifth taste’ of authentic Asian cuisine, with miso broths and soy-glazed dishes.
- Stack & Bun – American Inspired Burgers: The ultimate high-street burger, stacked with flavour.
- Dough Street – Artisan Pizza: Hand-stretched pizzas inspired by Naples and artisan pizzerias, featuring rich tomato sauce and inventive toppings.
- Chick’n Shop – Fried Chicken: Crispy, perfectly seasoned fried chicken with bold dips, capturing the essence of Southern Fried shacks and high-street favourites.
- Wrap’d – Global Wraps: Bold, portable street wraps from Mexican burritos to Middle Eastern shawarmas, with spicy rice, tasty fillings, and punchy flavours.
- Mezze – Middle Eastern Flavours: Fresh Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavours with aromatic spices, warm flatbreads, houmous, and fresh salads.
- Rollin Frank – Hotdogs: Hotdog culture from New York to Berlin: juicy dogs in soft brioche rolls, piled high with bold toppings and sauces.
- The Curry Pot – South Asian Cuisine: Vibrant South Asian street-food featuring rich, aromatic curries made with traditional Bangladeshi spice blends, served with fresh breads and bhajis.
