Elygra launches Returnables initiative to help schools cut single-use waste

09 Mar 2026
UK marketing company Elygra as launched Returnables, a new initiative designed to help schools reduce single-use food packaging and move towards more sustainable lunchtime practices.

With growing pressure on schools to reduce waste, lower carbon footprints and engage students in environmental action, Returnables provides a practical, scalable system of reusable food and drink containers tailored specifically for busy school dining environments.

The initiative forms part of Elygra’s wider mission to support schools and education caterers in creating environments that promote healthier choices, stronger engagement and meaningful sustainability outcomes.

Elygra has worked with schools and education caterers across the UK for more than two decades, delivering marketing support, design, signage, campaigns and consultancy to help education providers improve dining environments, communicate effectively with students and parents, and drive positive behaviour change.

Returnables replace disposable food containers with durable, reusable alternatives that can be returned, washed and reused as part of a simple circular system.

By reducing single-use plastics and packaging waste, schools can cut costs, reduce their environmental footprint and demonstrate visible climate action to students and the wider community.

A spokesperson for Elygra said: “Schools are increasingly committed to environmental responsibility, but they often need practical systems that make sustainable behaviour easy and achievable. Returnables is designed to support that shift by providing a straightforward solution that reduces waste while helping schools demonstrate real environmental leadership.”

Elygra is now exploring opportunities to work with organisations across the education and sustainability sectors to help more schools implement reusable systems and strengthen their environmental initiatives.
