HIT Chef Academy starts The SHEF Movement to support female chefs

11 Mar 2026
The SHEF Movement is a new initiative led by the HIT Chef Academy to celebrate, amplify and support female chefs across the hospitality industry including those who work in the school meals sector.

HIT Chef Academy says that despite progress women remain underrepresented in professional kitchens. The SHEF Movement aims to change that by sharing real stories, creating opportunities and encouraging more inclusive kitchen cultures.

By supporting The SHEF Movement, organsiations commit to helping drive positive change by:

  • Championing the stories of female chefs and apprentices in your kitchens
  • Supporting women to develop through apprenticeships and career progression
  • Encouraging more women to enter and thrive in professional kitchens
  • Promoting inclusive kitchen cultures where everyone can succeed

To kick off the movement, there will be a SHEF Movement webinar featuring a panel of inspiring voices from the industry. It will take place on Wednesday 25th March at 10am.

The session will be hosted by Paul Mannering, national hospitality & culinary lead and Gemma Cadden, people director. The session will explore real journeys and experiences of female chefs in hospitality, the realities of working in professional kitchens today, the gender gaps that still exist in the industry and advice for the next generation of chefs.
