Labour pledges pay boost during holidays for school cooks in Wales
The boost in pay would also be extended to lunchtime supervisors, cleaners and administrative staff. According to research by Unison Cymru school support staff in Wales can earn less than the minimum wage because of term-only pay.
Welsh politician Eluned Morgan said: "Too many are not paid year-round, too many miss out on training and professional development, too many feel undervalued despite the responsibility they carry every single day. That is not fair, and it is not right. Under Welsh Labour, that will change."
In December 2025 it was announced that Universal Primary Free School Meals (UPFSM) across Wales are to benefit from an estimated additional £8m investment over the coming two years, with the price spent per meal to rise from £3.20 to £3.40.
