The School Food People starts Kitchen Efficiency Project

20 Apr 2026
The School Food People are seeking expressions of interest from any organisations that would like the opportunity of working on a project focusing on kitchen efficiency.

As you will be aware kitchens take up a considerable amount of utilities and The School Food People would like to evidence some change. The project would also be in collaboration with the Department for Education.

Some areas to consider are:

  • How catering operators work, use of equipment efficiently and work flows
  • Equipment life cycle reviews
  • Whether by replacing with new, could reduce utility costs and maintenance costs
  • Reducing wastage

Neil Porter, business director of The School Food People, said: “In essence we want to do some work and create some case studies on some sample schools/kitchens from an existing and potential place where we can drive efficiencies around operators, equipment etc ultimately to reduce waste, energy, maintenance and utility costs.

“We anticipate it starting late summer with a survey/report of findings with a second stage to work with a range of suppliers/partners to implement the findings and recommendations to deliver the results and create a robust case study.”

If you are interested in this project, please write to Neil Porter at neil@theschoolfoodpeople.co.uk indicating your interest along with any previous experience you may have in this area by 31st April 2026.
